Who was Jose?
In 2007 I was in need of a 50 mile horse that could also work cows. So I went looking all around Texas and I finally found a 4 year old bay gelding that was an amazing cow horse and he had the potential to do endurance as well. He ended up being one of the greatest horses I will ever have. We did endurance for 18 years. He was my 100 mile horse, my multi day horse. We easily accomplished decade team and were only 2 years short of double decade when I found him dead in the pasture. He wasn't sick, didn't colic. Just died where he stood. He is irreplaceable to me and I am honored to name the ride for him. The ride will take place on some of the trails he knew well.
Fees
Entry Fee: $140.00
Camping Fee: $25 per ADULT RIDER/ per night . This fee will be collected with your entry fee and given to the land owner. The US Forest Service Fee is included in your entry fee.
Ride Camp
Horse water available in camp. Primitive camping. Camp opens Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Portable Toilets available starting Thursday.
Directions: Take Hwy 385 to Silver City Road. Turn Right on Jenny Gulch and follow signs to ride camp.
Camp space is limited. Please park intelligently with your pens behind your trailer to save space. Manure and hay may be spread but shavings must be bagged.
No hay will be offered for sale. Please bring your own.
Dog Policy
Well behaved, leashed dogs will be welcome in camp. Dogs are not allowed off leash. This is private land and we do not have permission to have loose dogs.

Financial Policies
Deposits are required to hold your space in the rides. Deposits are not refundable. A waiting list will be started when the ride reaches maximum available space. Please notify Jen if you are giving up your spot so the waiting list people can move onto the rider list.
Entries
The Trails
All loops have in camp checks. The trails are a mix of multi use trails, forest service roads, grass deer and elk trails and some bush whacking. HOOF PROTECTION STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. PADS FOR SOFT FOOTED HORSES, OR THOSE NOT USED TO ROCKS.
All loops have elevation changes as you would expect in the Black Hills National Forest. The loops are designed to have a mix of climbs and easy, faster trails.
Brand Inspections
Western South Dakota is a brand inspection area. Jen is a Brand Inspector and will offer inspections to those wanting one.
Ride Schedule
Friday
vet in starting around 3pm, pending vets arrival
Ride Meeting at 6pm
Saturday
6:30 50 milers start, roll call at 6:15
7:00 25 milers start, roll call at 6:45
8:30 Intros start
Awards after the last 50 miles finish, listen for horn
Dinner will be provided by management, please bring a dessert or side to share
Sunday
6:30 50 milers start, roll call at 6:15
